Travel like the Incas

Once a year we organise eco travel from the Netherlands to the Andes mountain range of Peru. This trip is for a maximum of 12 persons during 30 days with amongst others travelling with horses and llamas and an expedition to the beautiful ancient city of Choquequirao.

General goal of Taklla-Inkary's eco travels

Taklla-Inkary would like to attain by means of eco travel that two rich cultures meet and work together in a beautiful, wild ecological environment. This creates an opportunity for the exchange of various aspects of these two cultures, such as the material and the spiritual side. It gives people an opportunity for tranquillity and balance.

A travel with sweet lamas and horses

This thirty days journey is about experiencing an other way of living. Travelling and working like the Incas, to experience, at a height of 4000 metres, the simplicity of life in balance with spirituality, together with the population. During the travel one voluntarily supports a project of out-of-the-way schools for about ten days. Essentials: a good physical health, capacity to improvise, a social attitude, being aware of the environment and having an open mind for spirituality.

Project for out-of-the-way schools in the punjas

The project takes place at the province Apurimac in Totora and surroundings. The surrounding of Totora is divided in twelve communities who are spread over de punas. In a community live approximately 30 to 40 families, who form part of about 800 families in the whole area. This area is about the size of the province of Gelderland. It is in the punas of the Andes, at a height of about 4000 to 5000 metres. The communities are at a height of 3700 to 4500 metres and are one of the most out-of-the-way places where people live in South America.

In this project the participants from Holland, are going to join hands with the people from the community to improve a school-building. There are 12 schools in the area. In consult with the community one decides which school-building needs the most improvement. Each participant of the journey participates an amount of 100 Euros for the project. Every cent of the money is used for material. This 100 Euros is included in the all-in cost of the journey. The project is part of the 30 days travel. This volunteer-job takes about ten days.

Participation and subscription

This travel requires of the participants a good preparation. To participate in this project you have to attend a number of information- meetings. The first meeting is a general one. The intention of the journey and the project are going to be explained. If after this meeting you are enthusiastic you can enrol yourself for the next evening, without committing oneself.

The second evening you get more details about the journey and the project. If by then you decide to participate, we will send you a confirmation of your booking and the conditions of this journey. To make it all official you have to send back the confirmation of your booking with your signature on it. This means you are in the program and you accept the conditions. By then you have an agreement with Taklla Inkary.

A group consists of minimal 5 and maximal 15 people. Subscriptions are dealt with in order. At last there will be a preparatory class of three parts of the day with all the participants. There comes to the attention the social, mental, physical and spiritual side of the journey. It is necessary for the preparation of the journey that all participants have experiences all three parts of the course.

Price-fixing for the Peru journey

• 100 Euros for the project
• An international plane ticket Amsterdam-Lima (return-flight)
• A national plane ticket : Lima-Andaguilas (single ticket)
• A national plane ticket: Cuzco-Lima (single ticket)
• Transportation within the program
• 10 to 12 days hotel with breakfast
• About 18 days alternative overnight stays , breakfast, lunch, dinner, coca-leaves and canja.
• First aid escort
• Camera-man
• A carpenter/project companion
• Rent and care / companions of the horses, horse-riding lessons
• Rent and care/ companions of the sweet lamas who carry the luggage
• Tour manager who is also the one who answers any question you might have and who translates also Quechua and Spanish during the whole travel
• A substitute , if by any chance the tour manager is unable to travel along

The all-in cost of the journey will be discussed on the information evening.
